PM chairs CCS meeting over Kashmir blast

(Surjit Kumar Dhal, New Delhi, Feb 15): The Union Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), the highest decision-making body of the government, is meeting today to decide further course of action after the attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora, which left over 40 CRPF personnel killed and several others injured, some of them critically.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is chairing the meeting. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is flying to Srinagar to review the situation while a 12-member team from the National Investigating Agency (NIA) has been rushed to help Kashmir police probe the incident.

Cutting across party lines leaders of all political parties, President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condemned that attack terming it as an ‘ act of cowardice.’ Terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility. The stretch of road where the attack occurred was believed to be “safe”.
