Plus 2 Girl Set Ablaze by Miscreants in Puri, Probe Launched

Pipili: In a horrifying incident that has triggered widespread outrage, a Plus 2 girl student was allegedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants at Bayabar village under Nimapara Block in Odisha’s Puri district on Saturday morning.

The attack occurred while the girl was walking to her friend’s house. As per preliminary reports, three unidentified youths riding a motorcycle intercepted her, tied a handkerchief around her face, poured a flammable substance on her, and set her ablaze before fleeing the spot.

The incident took place just 5 to 7 kilometers from Balanga police station, raising serious concerns over safety, especially in the wake of the recent FM College self-immolation case in Balasore.

Locals rushed to the girl’s aid and promptly transported her to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition remains critical.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida condemned the incident and directed the police to ensure the immediate arrest of those involved. “Strict action will be taken against the culprits. The state government will bear all medical expenses of the victim,” she said, adding that she would personally visit the hospital to meet the survivor.

Meanwhile, police have launched a detailed investigation, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers. Security has been tightened in the region, and a forensic team has been deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene.
