Patnaik Skips New Year to Honor Manmohan Singh
Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik will not partake in New Year 2025 celebrations as the nation observes a seven-day mourning period following the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Singh passed away on December 26, with his last rites conducted with full military honours on December 29.
Patnaik, known for his sensitivity during times of national tragedy, reiterated his decision to forgo celebrations. During his tenure as Odisha’s Chief Minister, he consistently refrained from celebrating his birthday in the wake of major cyclones that devastated the state.
“In light of the nation’s mourning for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the recent unseasonal rains that have severely damaged crops, I will not participate in New Year festivities,” Patnaik stated. He also requested well-wishers to refrain from visiting his residence during this period.
Patnaik expressed solidarity with farmers affected by the rains and extended his respects to the late leader, honouring Singh’s contributions to the nation.
