Odisha Woman Keeps Late Husband ‘Alive’ with Silicone Statue

Rayagada: In a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, a woman in Odisha has commissioned a life-like silicone statue to keep his presence alive in their home.

Sagarika Roy, a resident of Muniguda in Rayagada district, lost her husband, Samir Roy, in October 2023 following a fatal head injury sustained in an accident. Samir, a 48-year-old rural medical practitioner, was well-known for his dedication to treating patients in nearby villages.

Struggling to cope with his sudden passing, Sagarika decided to create a lasting memory of her husband. She commissioned a silicone statue that now sits in their drawing room, positioned just as Samir used to relax after work. For Sagarika and their two children, the statue provides a sense of comfort and helps fill the void left by his absence.

“I didn’t want to feel his absence. The statue helps fill the void,” she said.

Originally from West Bengal, Samir was deeply respected for his medical service to the community. Following his demise, Sagarika took on the responsibility of securing their family’s future. She now runs a medicine store to support their 19-year-old son, Soroj, and 17-year-old daughter, Ankita.

The touching tribute has drawn attention for its unique way of preserving a loved one’s memory, highlighting the deep emotional bonds that transcend loss.
