Odisha Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Likely

Bhubaneswar:In a significant relief from the ongoing hot and humid weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar Centre, has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds for several districts of Odisha over the next six days. The department has issued a Yellow Warning for multiple regions, indicating the possibility of adverse weather in the afternoons and evenings.
According to the Meteorological Centre, there will be no major change in maximum temperature during the next 24 hours. However, a fall of 2 to 3°C in day temperatures is expected over the following four days, with stable temperatures thereafter.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in South Odisha, and at one or two places in North Odisha districts during the next 24 hours.

May 22: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind (40–50 kmph) is very likely at one or two places in the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal.
May 23: Similar weather conditions are expected over Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur.
May 24: Thunderstorm with lightning and wind speed up to 50 kmph is likely in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nuapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
May 25: Affected districts include Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
May 26: Yellow warning in place for Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jajpur, and Bhadrak.
May 27: Thunderstorm and lightning likely over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
May 28: The same weather pattern is expected to continue in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Heavy Rainfall Alert:
Additionally, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada during afternoon or evening hours in the coming days.
