Odisha Vigilance Traps ASI Budu Bhoi for Bribery

Subarnapur: The Odisha Vigilance on Sunday caught Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Budu Bhoi of Birmaharajpur Police Station red-handed while accepting a bribe of 6,000.
According to sources, Bhoi had demanded the bribe from a complainant for the release of his motorcycle, which had been seized in an accident case on January 4, 2025. Despite repeated requests for the vehicle’s release over the past month, the ASI allegedly insisted on the illegal payment. Frustrated by the demand, the complainant approached the Vigilance department, leading to the trap.
The Vigilance team apprehended Bhoi while he was taking the bribe and recovered the entire amount from his possession. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to Bhoi to investigate any disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No. 01, dated February 3, 2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is currently underway.
Notably, this is the second case of a police officer being caught by the Vigilance in the last three days. Earlier, Sub-Inspector (SI) Abhay Kumar Nayak of Sukinda Police Station in Jajpur district was arrested for allegedly accepting 5,000 bribe to settle a family dispute.
