Odisha to Sponsor Indian Kho Kho Team for ₹15 Crore

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to promote indigenous sports, the Odisha Government has unveiled a landmark three-year sponsorship deal for the Indian National Kho Kho team.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced today that the state will invest ₹5 crore annually from January 2025 to December 2027, amounting to a total of ₹15 crore over the sponsorship period. The funding will be provided by the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC).

“This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing traditional sports and supporting athletes at the national level. Kho Kho is deeply rooted in our cultural heritage, and we aim to elevate its status on the global stage,” said CM Majhi.

The sponsorship is expected to enhance training facilities, provide better equipment, and create more opportunities for players to compete internationally. Odisha has been at the forefront of promoting sports, with similar initiatives in hockey, athletics, and weightlifting.
