Odisha to See Rain and Rising Temperatures Till Dec 22

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is expected to witness rainfall until December 22 due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, according to the Regional Meteorological Center. Both coastal and interior regions of the state are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall alongside a noticeable rise in temperature.

Districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara are likely to see rain today. Light rain may also occur in parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

The weather department reported a rise in minimum temperatures across Odisha, with many areas recording increases of 2–5°C. Despite this, eight locations have registered temperatures of 10°C or lower. A further increase of 2–3°C is predicted over the next two days.

The low-pressure system, which has formed over the Bay of Bengal, is moving northwest and is expected to approach the Tamil Nadu coast within two days, triggering heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Cyclone Warning Center (CWC) in Visakhapatnam has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh over the next three to four days, as informed by KVS Srinivas, MD at the CWC. Earlier this month, a similar system brought widespread rain to Tamil Nadu’s coastal areas.

The IMD also reported a drop in minimum temperatures by 1–2°C in parts of the Western Himalayan region, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and interior Odisha, while Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and parts of Northwest and Western India experienced temperature rises of 1–2°C.
