Odisha to Form Law Commission to Review Old Laws
Bhubaneswar: Odisha will soon establish a Law Commission to identify and review obsolete laws in the state, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced during a recent press interaction.
The Minister emphasized the commission’s crucial role in promoting good governance and ensuring that outdated laws are either amended or abolished. He criticized the previous government for inaction since 2018, stating that the formation of the commission was long overdue.
A law professor will be appointed as a member of the commission to provide expert input, the Minister added. The commission will work to analyze existing laws, suggest necessary amendments, and recommend changes to the state government, which will make the final decision.
The Law Commission will be established with the approval of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Minister Harichandan reiterated that the initiative aligns with the broader goal of strengthening governance and legal frameworks in Odisha.
