Odisha to Distribute New Ration Cards in November

The Odisha government is set to distribute ration cards to new beneficiaries starting in November 2024, according to Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra. Following a review of approximately 10 lakh applications, the state is prepared to issue fresh ration cards to eligible residents.

Previously, applicants underwent an e-KYC verification process to confirm their eligibility.

In July, Minister Patra had announced that the Odisha government would take steps to exclude ineligible beneficiaries from the list under the Food Security Act. The government has established 12 inclusion criteria for eligible families, along with 10 exclusion criteria to identify and remove ineligible beneficiaries. Officials have been instructed to adhere to these guidelines strictly, ensuring that only qualified families are included in the list of ration card recipients.

This initiative aims to strengthen the distribution system and support food security for deserving families across the state.
