Odisha to deploy IoT devices for real-time monitoring of lift irrigation projects

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance transparency and efficiency in water resource management, the Water Resources Department of Odisha is set to deploy sensor-based IoT (Internet of Things) devices to monitor the status of lift irrigation projects across the state. This initiative marks a major step toward leveraging Information Technology for governance and improved service delivery.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held on Friday at Lok Seva Bhawan, chaired by Development Commissioner Anu Garg. The meeting focused on the integration of IoT-based systems in the monitoring framework of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation (OLIC) projects.
In the first phase of implementation, around 37,000 Community Lift Irrigation Projects (CLIPs) will be covered under this ambitious initiative. The deployment of sensor-based IoT devices will enable real-time data collection and monitoring, facilitating prompt action in case of technical issues or water supply disruptions.
Senior officials including the Managing Director of OLIC, the CEO of Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), the Engineer-in-Chief of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS), and the Chief Engineer of RWSS participated in the deliberations and shared inputs on the roadmap for successful execution.
The move is expected to bring greater accountability, minimize downtime of irrigation units, and ensure optimal utilization of resources, thereby benefiting thousands of farmers across Odisha.
