Odisha to Build Mega Convention Centre, Modern Market in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major infrastructure push, the Odisha government has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art convention centre and a modern community market in the capital city. Both projects will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, official sources said.

The proposed mega convention centre, with a seating capacity of 10,000 people, will come up in Chandrasekharpur. It is set to become the largest such facility in Bhubaneswar. The Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation (OBCC) has been entrusted with the execution of the project.

Authorities have earmarked 18 acres of land in Chandrasekharpur for the project. The convention centre will feature plenary halls, meeting rooms, small conference spaces, indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, congregation zones, and ample parking facilities. Additionally, a three-star hotel is also planned adjacent to the convention centre, to be developed in PPP mode.

In a parallel development, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has unveiled plans to establish a modern community market in Ghatikia. Spread across 2.79 acres, the market will have three floors equipped with passageways, staircases, storage rooms, toilets, and other essential amenities.

Designed to be fully air-conditioned, the market will feature separate zones for vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. Inspired by the Gajwel market in Telangana, the facility will accommodate around 220 shops and include dedicated parking space for visitors.
