Odisha to Add Five Tigresses in Similipal Sanctuary

Bhubaneswar: Following the successful release of a tigress from Maharashtra, the Odisha government is preparing to introduce five more tigresses to Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary to support the local tiger population, according to Forest & Environment Minister Ganesh Ramsingh Khuntia.

“Recently, one tigress has been released into the wild at Similipal. Arrangements are underway to release another tigress within the next couple of days, with the entire process carried out in consultation with the local community,” Minister Khuntia stated.

Currently, Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary is home to about 40 tigers. The addition of more tigresses is part of the government’s broader efforts to increase the sanctuary’s tiger population and strengthen conservation efforts.

Just two days ago, the Royal Bengal tigress named ‘Yamuna’ was released into Similipal after being brought from Maharashtra through a careful relocation process.
