Odisha Sizzles Under Heatwave

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring above normal across the state. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature is currently 3 to 4 degrees Celsius higher than usual, while some interior regions are witnessing a rise of 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal. The heatwave is expected to persist, with no significant change in temperature anticipated for the next 4-5 days.
Since February 1, the entire state has been reeling under extreme heat, affecting both coastal and interior regions. Coastal cities like Puri are witnessing a minimal difference between day and night temperatures, with only a 6.2°C variation. Even traditionally cooler areas like Koraput are now experiencing scorching daytime temperatures.
The situation is even more severe in cities like Titilagarh, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur, where temperatures have exceeded 35°C since the beginning of the month. Global weather agencies predict that the heatwave will intensify further in the coming weeks as temperatures continue to rise.
Meanwhile, dense fog has been reported in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Angul over the past 24 hours. The Regional Meteorological Center has forecasted dense fog in some areas for the next three days, particularly in Kendrapara, Angul, Cuttack, Khordha, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bargarh, and Ganjam today.
With rising temperatures and fluctuating weather conditions, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe from both the extreme heat and fog-related disruptions.
