Odisha Sees Winter Chill Return as Night Temperatures Plummet

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing a resurgence of winter cold as night temperatures have dropped significantly across the state, with a decline of 4 to 5 degrees Celsius reported in many areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the chill to the dissipation of recent cloudy skies and light rain that had caused a temporary rise in temperatures earlier this month.

As of now, 13 cities in Odisha have recorded night temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius. Jharsuguda emerged as the coldest district with a minimum temperature of 10.8 degrees Celsius, while Keonjhar and Angul saw the steepest declines of up to 5 degrees Celsius. Bhubaneswar also witnessed a 3-degree drop in night temperatures, adding to the statewide chill.

IMD has predicted stable night temperatures for the next four to five days, with the possibility of a further dip, intensifying the winter experience. The colder nights have also led to increased fog, attracting more visitors to popular tourist destinations in Odisha.

Winter had initially set in by late November, but a brief spell of rain and overcast conditions in early December brought warmer temperatures before the current chill took hold.
