Odisha Sees Progress in Migrant Worker Issues: Deputy CM

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Thursday stated that the state has made significant progress in tackling the challenges faced by migrant workers.

Speaking to the media, Singh Deo said that the state government has taken concrete measures to streamline the management of migrant labour. “This year, the situation regarding migrant workers has improved significantly. District Collectors and police officials have been directed to act promptly on any complaints. Wherever necessary, arrangements are being made to bring back migrant workers to Odisha,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister, however, acknowledged persistent challenges, especially when workers migrate without registering under licensed contractors. “We face issues when workers travel outside the state without registration through authorised contractors. In fact, two individuals involved in illegal migration have been dismissed from government service,” he added.

He emphasized the state government’s commitment to curbing illegal migration and ensuring the safety and rights of workers. “While I won’t claim that 100 percent of the problems have been resolved, the government is making every effort to manage the situation effectively,” Singh Deo concluded.
