Odisha Police Win 20 Medals at World Police & Fire Games 2025

Bhubaneswar: The medal-winning athletes of Odisha Police received a hero’s welcome as they returned home after a remarkable performance at the World Police and Fire Games 2025 held in Birmingham, USA. A special felicitation ceremony was organized at the Director General of Police’s (DGP) camp office in Bhubaneswar to honor their achievements.

The athletes—part of the Indian police contingent—brought home a total of 20 medals, including 13 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze, contributing significantly to India’s medal tally in the global event held from June 27 to July 6.

DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania personally felicitated the athletes, commending their commitment, excellence, and the pride they brought to the state and the nation. “This remarkable achievement has brought honor not only to Odisha Police but to the entire country. I hope their success inspires more young people in Odisha to pursue sports with passion,” he said.

A total of seven Odisha Police personnel—five men and two women—participated in athletics and karate events. The medal winners include:

  • Ashok Dandasena (C/344): 7 Gold, 1 Silver
  • Susmita Tigga (RC/286): 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze
  • Sabita Toppo (RC/259): 1 Gold, 2 Bronze
  • Bhagaban Reddy (RC/259): 1 Gold
  • Suman Sekhar Das (RC/154): 1 Gold
  • Ritesh Ray (RC/135): 1 Gold
  • Abhishek Pattnaik (RC/815): 1 Bronze

The athletes were given a warm welcome at Biju Patnaik International Airport, where Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena greeted them with floral bouquets.

Several senior officials attended the felicitation ceremony, including ADG (Railways & Coastal Security) Arun Bothra, ADG (Armed Security) Rajesh S. Kumar, Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, Addl. Commissioner Narasingha Bhol, IG (Intelligence) Jai Narayan Pankaj, and SP (Railways) Vivekanand Sharma. The event was conducted by Odisha Police Sports Officer Nilamadhab Swain.

The impressive performance has further solidified Odisha Police’s reputation for promoting sporting talent and upholding the spirit of excellence.
