Odisha MeT Issues Orange Alert for Thunderstorms in Nine Districts

Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has issued an orange alert for severe thunderstorms in multiple districts of Odisha for the next three hours.

According to the latest bulletin, nine districts are expected to experience moderate thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (40-60 kmph), light to moderate rain, and hailstorms. The affected districts are Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj, and Cuttack.

Authorities have warned that the storm could cause minor damage to unsecured structures, banana trees, and standing crops. Residents have been advised to stay alert and move to safer places if necessary.

A yellow warning has also been issued for six districts, predicting light to moderate thunderstorms, rain, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in the next three hours. The affected districts under the yellow warning are Angul, Khordha, Dhenkanal, Sundergarh, Malkangiri, and Puri.

The Meteorological Department has urged people to remain indoors and take necessary precautions as unstable weather conditions persist in the state.
