Odisha launches special drive to clear pending urban grievances

Bhubaneswar: The Housing & Urban Development Department of Odisha has announced a Special Grievance Redressal Drive across all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state, scheduled from July 21 to July 25, 2025.
The five-day initiative is aimed at resolving all pending public complaints received through multiple platforms, including Jana Sunani, the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), ULB-level helpdesks, and other communication channels.
As part of the directive, Municipal Commissioners and Executive Officers across Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and Notified Area Councils (NACs) have been tasked with mobilizing dedicated teams, streamlining response mechanisms, and ensuring the complete clearance of grievance backlogs during the drive.
This targeted initiative underscores the State Government’s commitment to responsive, transparent, and accountable urban service delivery, with a specific focus on core civic concerns such as sanitation, water supply, drainage, street lighting, waste management, and building plan approvals.
A senior official from the department emphasized the intent behind the move, saying, “This special drive is part of our continued efforts to deliver quality services and ensure last-mile governance in urban areas. Timely grievance redressal is key to building public trust in the system.”
In a bid to measure the effectiveness of the drive, the Department has instructed all ULBs to submit a comprehensive Action Taken Report (ATR) by July 29, 2025. The ATR will include data on the number of grievances addressed, system-level reforms implemented, and feedback collected from citizens.
The initiative is seen as a significant step forward in improving service delivery and strengthening public confidence in urban administration. Citizens are encouraged to approach their local ULB offices or follow official portals for real-time updates and support during the drive.
