Odisha Launches First State-Owned ATS

Bhubaneswar: In a landmark move to enhance road safety and vehicle regulation, the Odisha government has inaugurated India’s first fully state-owned Automated Testing Station (ATS) under the jurisdiction of the Cuttack Regional Transport Office (RTO). This state-of-the-art facility is designed to improve the accuracy and transparency of motor vehicle fitness inspections.

The ATS, developed in compliance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, utilizes advanced technology to conduct automated fitness tests, replacing the traditional manual assessment system. Unlike the earlier method, which was susceptible to human error and subjectivity, the automated process ensures an impartial and efficient evaluation of vehicle roadworthiness.

The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in reducing the number of unfit vehicles on the roads, thereby enhancing road safety and preventing accidents. Recognizing the importance of stringent vehicle fitness checks in maintaining traffic discipline, the Odisha government has also announced plans to establish 21 additional ATS centres across the state in the near future.

Automated fitness testing represents a significant step toward modernizing vehicle inspections. By eliminating manual intervention, the ATS system boosts efficiency, minimizes corruption, and strengthens regulatory compliance, ensuring that only roadworthy vehicles receive certification for continued operation.
