Odisha Launches e-Detection for Insurance

Bhubaneswar: The e-Detection system for monitoring vehicle insurance compliance has been implemented at 22 toll gates across Odisha from February 1. Under this system, an e-challan will be issued to vehicle owners if their vehicle is found uninsured.
The State Transport Authority (STA) has completed all necessary preparations for the rollout. As per Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, every motor vehicle must have valid insurance. Failure to comply will result in a fine of ₹2,000 or imprisonment for up to three months under Section 196 of the Act. Repeat offenders will face a ₹4,000 fine and three months of imprisonment.
Many private and commercial vehicles operate without insurance, depriving accident victims’ families of compensation. Expressing concern over the issue, the state government aims to enforce stricter compliance through this initiative.
