Odisha: Govt to Provide Additional Subsidy for Rooftop Solar Panels

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced additional financial assistance for the installation of rooftop solar panels under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG:MBY).

The decision was approved during a State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja stated that the state will offer an additional subsidy of ₹25,000 for installing 1 kilowatt (KW) rooftop solar panels. This subsidy will apply to projects with a maximum capacity of 2 KW.

For households installing 3 KW systems, the government will provide an extra ₹10,000 for the third kilowatt, Ahuja added.

The state plans to allocate ₹1,800 crore from the 2024-25 to 2026-27 fiscal years to support this initiative, benefiting around 3 lakh households across Odisha.

The Union Government currently provides a ₹30,000 subsidy for 1 KW installations and ₹60,000 for 2 KW systems under the PMSG:MBY. Odisha’s additional subsidy is expected to further ease the financial burden on households adopting solar energy.
