Odisha Govt to Ban Obscene Dances in Jatra Shows
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government plans to prohibit vulgar performances in Jatra shows, with guidelines being prepared to curb obscenity on stage.
Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj revealed this in the Assembly while responding to Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
Raising concerns during the winter session of the Assembly, BJP MLA Sanatan Bijuli urged the government to enact a law to preserve Odisha’s cultural ethos. Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh highlighted a recent public outcry over an objectionable Jatra performance in Ganjam district, suggesting censorship of such acts before staging.
The proposed move aims to uphold the integrity of Odisha’s cultural traditions.
