Odisha Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Safe Workplaces at POSH Act Orientation

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe and dignified workplaces for all employees during a special orientation programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 — popularly known as the POSH Act — held at the Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Centre on Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida addressed over 600 employees at the event, urging them to foster a culture of mutual respect and zero tolerance for sexual harassment in the workplace. “Both men and women can be victims of sexual harassment. Hence, it is essential that every individual is aware of the POSH Act’s provisions and remains alert,” she said.
Highlighting the importance of gender harmony, Parida emphasized that men and women are the two wheels of society and called for unity and mutual respect to build a progressive and safe work environment.
The Deputy Chief Minister also noted that strict directives have been issued to set up Internal Committees in all institutions and colleges to ensure effective implementation of the Act. She assured that proper investigations would be conducted in all reported cases, with appropriate punishment for the guilty. At the same time, she cautioned that individuals found making false allegations would also face necessary consequences.
The event featured an in-depth presentation on the POSH Act by senior lawyer Manasi Padhi, who elaborated on the legal provisions, rights, responsibilities, and redressal mechanisms under the law in two dedicated sessions.
Also present at the event were Monisha Banerjee, Director of the Department of Women and Child Development, along with several senior officials from the department.
