Odisha Govt Extends IPS Officer Rajesh Uttamrao’s Suspension by 30 Days

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao for an additional 30 days, effective from April 26, 2025. This marks the fourth consecutive extension of his suspension since he was first placed under disciplinary action last year.

Uttamrao, a 2007-batch Odisha-cadre IPS officer, was initially suspended on July 30, 2024, for grave misconduct in service. Following his initial 60-day suspension, the Home Department extended it multiple times—for 120 days from September 28, 2024, another 60 days from January 26, 2025, and 30 more days from March 27, 2025.

As per the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, a review meeting was held on April 24, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. The Review Committee assessed all relevant documents related to the case and recommended the continuation of his suspension. The State Government accepted the recommendation and extended the suspension accordingly.

Before his suspension, Uttamrao served as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Fire Services and Home Guard.

The disciplinary action was initiated after serious allegations surfaced against him. He allegedly forcibly entered the residence of a woman inspector in Bhubaneswar without permission on the night of July 27, 2024, and reportedly misbehaved with her and her husband. The suspension followed a confidential report submitted to the Home Department.
