Odisha Govt accepts Dr Budhan Murmu’s resignation

Surjit Kumar Dhal,Bhubaneswar, April 4: Odisha Government accepted resignation of Dr Budhan Murmu, who has been fielded as candidate from Saraskana Assembly seat in Mayurbhanj by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The State Health department informed this through a notification today.
Health Minister Pratap Jena said, “Since the launch of universal health-care scheme Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, the State Government had not accepted the VRS (voluntary retirement scheme) of several doctors as there is a shortage of doctors in the State.”
“But when we realized that he wanted to serve the people of his area by contesting elections, we immediately accepted his VRS today,” he added.
Notably, Odisha BJP delegation sat in a ‘dharna’ in front of Naveen Niwas on Wednesday demanding acceptance of resignation of Murmu.
Murmu was a doctor at Rangamatia Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Mayurbhanj district. He had tendered his resignation from the State Government service on October 4, 2018.
Notably, filing of nomination papers for fourth phase general elections-2019, including Mayurbhanj district, has been scheduled from tomorrow (April 4) till April 9.
