Odisha Government Sets Speed Limits for ‘Mo Bus’ Buses to Enhance Safety
Bhubaneswar: In a move to enhance the safety of passengers, Odisha Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra announced new speed limits for the state’s ‘Mo Bus’ fleet on Tuesday.
The speed of the buses within city limits will now be restricted to 40 kilometers per hour (KMPH), while on routes outside the cities, the speed limit will be set at 50 KMPH. To enforce these restrictions, each bus will be equipped with speed governors.
Additionally, only licensed and experienced drivers will be allowed to operate the buses, ensuring higher standards of safety. The minister emphasized that strict checks would be conducted to ensure that drivers are not under the influence of alcohol.
The move comes in the wake of several recent accidents involving ‘Mo Bus’ buses, which resulted in loss of life and injuries. These incidents had raised significant concerns regarding the safety of passengers.
The ‘Mo Bus’ service currently operates in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khordha, Pipili, Puri, Konark, Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Berhampur, serving a wide area across the state.
The government has directed concerned officials to prioritize safety protocols and ensure that these measures are strictly followed to prevent further accidents and reassure passengers.
