Odisha Forms Armed Force for Simlipal Tiger Reserve Security
The Odisha government has announced a major step towards enhancing the security of Simlipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district. In response to rising incidents of wildlife poaching, the state will deploy a dedicated force to protect the Simlipal Tiger Reserve.
Home Secretary Satyabrat Sahu informed the Accountant General of the decision, which includes forming a 131-member team from the Armed Police Reserve (APR). The newly-formed company will be stationed at Simlipal, tasked with guarding the sanctuary. The team will consist of one commandant, one inspector, three sub-inspectors, three assistant sub-inspectors, 30 havildars, 87 sepoys, and three drivers, with the Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police overseeing its administrative duties.
This initiative, the first of its kind in India, is a significant effort to bolster the protection of wildlife in Simlipal. The expenses for the new force will be covered by the Forest and Environment Department.
