Odisha Emerges as Backbone of India’s Steel Sector: CM Majhi at India Steel 2025

Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the state’s crucial contribution to India’s steel sector at the ‘India Steel 2025’ conference held in Mumbai, emphasizing that Odisha produces 55% of the nation’s total iron ore output.
Speaking at the Odisha State Roundtable, the Chief Minister described steel as the “Mother Industry” of the state, underlining its deep-rooted significance in Odisha’s economic and industrial landscape.
“India ranks as the fourth largest producer of iron ore globally, and Odisha stands tall as the leading contributor within the country. My home district, Keonjhar, is a mineral-rich region that alone accounts for over 50% of Odisha’s iron ore production,” said CM Majhi.
He further stated that Odisha’s robust mineral resources, particularly iron ore, have played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s position in the global steel market, while also driving industrial growth and employment in the region.
The ‘India Steel 2025’ conference brought together key stakeholders from the steel industry, including policymakers, industrialists, and investors, to deliberate on strategies for sustainable growth and innovation in the sector.
