Odisha Declares ‘The Sabarmati Report’ Tax-Free
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has declared Dheeraj Sarna-directed film The Sabarmati Report tax-free in the state. Announced during the winter session of the Odisha Assembly by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, this move follows similar exemptions in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat—all BJP-ruled states.
The film, produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R. Kapoor, Amul V. Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, stars Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra. It has grossed over ₹20 crore in just 12 days since its release.
The Sabarmati Report is based on the 2002 burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra Railway Station in Gujarat, where 59 Hindu devotees returning from Ayodhya were killed. The incident led to widespread riots across Gujarat.
