Odisha CM Warns Against Recruitment Corruption
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday issued a stern warning against corruption in the recruitment process, stating that those indulging in fraudulent practices will face severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines up to ₹1 crore.
Speaking at a job fair at Lok Seva Bhawan, the Chief Minister criticized previous governments for lack of transparency in recruitment processes. He cited examples such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and Assistant Section Officer (ASO) tests, which were allegedly marred by corruption. Majhi emphasized that favoritism and dishonesty had eroded public trust, especially among deserving candidates from underprivileged backgrounds.
To address these issues, the government has enacted the Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024. The new law aims to ensure impartiality and transparency in recruitment, with strict penalties for malpractices. “The rule will be enforced rigorously, and wrongdoers should be prepared to face the consequences,” Majhi declared.
At the event, the Chief Minister handed out appointment letters to newly recruited healthcare and education professionals. These included 85 homoeopathic medical officers, 239 radiographers in the Health Department, and 52 professors in the Higher Education Department.
The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to impartial recruitment practices, asserting that the new law marks a significant step toward restoring faith in government processes.
