Odisha CM thanks PM, Civil Aviation Minister for approving Puri Airport

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu for giving in-principle approval for the proposed Green Field airport at Puri.
As per a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the proposed airport at Puri which is named as Sri Jagannath International Airport will be constructed on 1,164 acres of land in three phases with an expenditure of Rs 5,631 Crore.
Once completed, the Sri Jagannath International Airport in Puri will have the capacity to provide service to over 46 lakh passengers annually.
According to the CMO, the Sri Jagannath International Airport is expected to enhance regional connectivity, making the sacred city of Puri more accessible for pilgrims and tourists visiting the Lord Jagannath Temple.
It is to be noted here that the Civil Aviation Ministry gave its approval for the Puri Airport four days after the Odisha Chief Minister pushed for fast-tracking of the project.
