Odisha Acts to Ensure Fuel Supply Amid Drivers’ Strike

Bhubaneswar: Amid the ongoing drivers’ strike across Odisha, the state government has launched a series of proactive measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fuel and other essential commodities. A high-level review meeting chaired by Commerce & Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena was held on Tuesday to assess the situation and coordinate an effective response.

Senior officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Director General of Police, Principal Secretaries of Commerce & Transport and Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, the Transport Commissioner, and representatives of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), attended the meeting.

During the review, the minister reiterated the state government’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the drivers’ association and appealed for the immediate withdrawal of the strike in the public interest. He emphasized the importance of maintaining normalcy to safeguard citizens’ welfare and protect the state’s economy from disruption.

To manage the situation, a dedicated task force has been constituted. This team includes officials from the Transport Department, police, district administrations, and OMCs. The task force will operate round-the-clock to monitor developments, resolve any logistical issues, and facilitate the smooth movement of petroleum products and essential goods.

Security escorts have been deployed to ensure safe passage of fuel tankers and cargo vehicles. Local authorities and police have been instructed to provide necessary support to avoid any interruptions in the supply chain.

Dispelling rumours of a fuel shortage, the minister confirmed that there is no crisis. Oil companies have assured the government that sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are available at all depots and retail outlets across the state. Odisha’s daily requirement of 600 fuel tankers is currently being met without disruption, according to OMC reports.

The government has urged the public not to panic or resort to hoarding. Citizens have also been advised against spreading unverified information on social media platforms, as such actions could trigger unnecessary fear.

The situation remains under close watch as the government continues its efforts to ensure a steady supply of critical goods throughout the state.
