Notorious Drug Peddler Injured in Police Encounter in Bhubaneswar

A wanted drug mafia figure, Sheikh Jamshed, was critically injured in a police encounter late last night at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar. The operation was carried out by the Special Crime Unit.

According to sources, the incident took place while police were pursuing Jamshed, who was traveling from Pokhariput towards Khandagiri. When officers attempted to intercept him, Jamshed allegedly opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest. Police retaliated, shooting him in the leg.

Jamshed sustained two bullet injuries and was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he remains in critical condition.

During the operation, police recovered brown sugar worth approximately Rs 20 lakh and a pistol from his possession.

Officials revealed that Jamshed is a repeat offender with several criminal cases registered against him at Lalbag, Balianta, and Badagada police stations. He had also been arrested earlier by the Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) for his involvement in narcotics-related activities.

The Special Crime Unit continues to investigate the case and is working to dismantle the network linked to Jamshed.
