Newly-Recruited Revenue Official Caught Taking ₹30,000 Bribe in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a swift anti-corruption action, Vigilance officials on Friday arrested a newly-appointed Junior Revenue Assistant of the Revenue Department in Bhubaneswar for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000.

The accused, Sourav Tripathy, was posted at the Special Certificate Section in the Sub-Collector’s office of the capital city. According to Vigilance sources, Tripathy had demanded the bribe from a citizen in exchange for processing a file related to a certificate case.

Acting on a complaint filed with the Vigilance Department, officials laid a trap and caught Tripathy red-handed while he was accepting the bribe. The entire amount was recovered from his possession at the time of the arrest.

Following the successful trap, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to Tripathy to investigate possible possession of disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against him at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing.
