Newborn Girl Found Abandoned in Subarnapur

Subarnapur: A newborn girl was found abandoned along a roadside in Tulundupali Village, under the Binika Police limits in Odisha’s Subarnapur district, on Saturday morning. The infant was discovered by a local resident, Santosh Nayi, who noticed that she was still alive despite being left in a vulnerable condition. Nayi quickly took the baby to the Binika Community Health Centre for immediate medical care.

The baby, who was covered in mud, dirt, and blood, was reportedly hypothermic when she arrived at the health centre but is now in stable condition. After initial treatment, she was referred to the Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital for further care.

Dr. Santosh Bibhar of the Binika CHC confirmed that the baby appeared to be a newborn and expressed concern that she might have been buried shortly after birth. “We received the infant today, and her condition is stable now. However, when she arrived, she was hypothermic,” Dr. Bibhar said.

Santosh Nayi, who found and rescued the baby, shared his distress: “I found the child lying by the road, and I don’t know how long she had been there in the cold. Once I realized she was still alive, I rushed her to the hospital.”

In a heartwarming turn, the couple who rescued the infant has expressed their desire to adopt her. The couple has been childless for nearly 17 years and is now seeking to provide a home for the abandoned child.

This incident follows another similar case in Bhubaneswar in late November, where a newborn girl was discovered by local residents in a slum area. The baby, wrapped in a towel, was heard crying by passersby and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
