Naveen to Lay Foundation Stone of Twin City Metro Rail Project in June

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will lay the foundation stone of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack metro rail project in June. This was informed by Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Government of Odisha G Mathi Vathanan on Friday.

The H&UD Principal Secretary further stated thata Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and the field survey has also been completed for the Twincity metro project. Earlier, on Odisha Day (April 1) this year, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had approved the proposal for the metrorail service between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar cities.

As per official sources, the state government has approved the metro rail service project from Biju Patnaik International airport in Bhubaneswar  to Trishulia Square in Cuttack in the first phase. Sources furtherr informed that in the first phase through elevated corridor, the metro project would be constructed from Bhubaneswar airport to Netaji Bridge in Cuttack.

It can be recalled that Chief Minister Patnaik had said that the project has been studied by various stake holders and feasibility reports have also been prepared.  Patnaik had stated,“In the first phase we will create the metro trunk route from Trisulia near Cuttack to Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. The route will tentatively touch major landmarks such as Nandankanan, Patia, Vani Vihar, Railway Station and so on. As the project is starting from near Subash Bose Setu, it will enable the commuters from Cuttack to access important locations in Bhubaneswar. In later phases the metro will expand to Khurda and Puri.”

Now, with H&UD Principal Secretary informing that CM Patnaik would lay the foundationstone of the metro project in June, it implies that the state government is determined to expedite the metro rail project and it’s not a pre-election gimmik, as the opposition had remarked earlier.
