Naveen Patnaik Recovering Well After Successful Surgery in Mumbai

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik is recovering well after undergoing successful surgery for cervical arthritis at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, his family confirmed on Monday.
In a video message, Naveen Patnaik’s elder brother, Prem Patnaik, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Odisha for their prayers and good wishes. He assured that the veteran leader is in stable condition, fully conscious, and under close medical observation.
“He’s doing very well, walking a little bit — just a few steps to the bathroom,” Prem Patnaik shared, offering a reassuring update on the former Chief Minister’s post-operative recovery.
The surgery, which lasted around two hours, was performed by a team of specialists under the direct supervision of renowned cardiologist Dr. Ramakanta Panda. There were no complications during the procedure.
Prem Patnaik praised the people of Odisha for their overwhelming support and said the public’s love and concern had been a source of strength for the family during this difficult time.
Naveen Patnaik, who recently assumed the role of Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly following the BJD’s defeat in the 2024 state elections, had been experiencing discomfort due to cervical arthritis before being admitted to the Mumbai hospital.
Further medical updates are expected in the coming days.
