Naveen flags off bi-cycle sharing project

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched the ‘Mo Cycle’ service in Bhubaneswar and its mobile application under the Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) project.

According to reports, Patnaik flagged off a promotional rally, comprising 300 bicyclists, from Airport Square to Kalinga Stadium here.

In the first phase, as many as 1000 bicycles have been made available, which will be stationed at 120 parking points across the city. Individuals can avail the facility by paying Rs 100 per month while the ride for the first 30 minutes will be free of cost.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has laid 3-feet wide dedicated bicycle tracks painted in red in core areas of the Capital city. The bicycles are also enabled with digital mapping based on global positioning system (GPS) locations.

The ‘Mo Cycle’ comes with a dedicated mobile app-based service for users to locate and use a bicycle. All the cycles shall have remote locking and unlocking facilities.

The Odisha government aims to spread the idea and propagate the love for cycles, cycling and stay healthy for a greener and better urban conglomerate. Controlling harmful emissions, causing less air pollution and last but not the least, promoting a healthy lifestyle, Public Bi-cycle Sharing (PBS) system would be the answer to the city’s green transport possibility and vision, as there would be many citizens who are eager to use this alternative.
