Naveen Demands Compensation For Farmers

Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition (LoP) of Odisha Assembly and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged the State government to immediately provide compensation to the farmers who incurred losses due to the recent unseasonal rain in the State.

Patnaik requested the State government after reviewing the crop loss situation in Seragada block, Hinjili block, Aska and Kabisuryanagar during his one-day visit to Ganjam district today. During his tour, he met the farmers and went to their croplands to review the crop loss situation.

Soon after reviewing the situation, Patnaik also discussed about it with the concerned officials who were present during his visit. Thousands of people including farmers had gathered to meet him and apprise him of the losses they faced due to the untimely rain in their localities.

While meeting the farmers, Naveen gave them assurance saying that he is always with the farmers and will continue to fight for their rights and dignity. “The farmers of Ganjam district are in a very distressed situation after losing their crops at a time of harvesting. The unseasonal rain has broken their backbone. Therefore, the State government should provide them adequate compensations without any delay,” he appealed.

The Ganjam district police along with the local authorities had made elaborate arrangement, including security measures, for Naveen Patnaik’s smooth and peaceful visit to the district.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that the damage assessment report will be out by tomorrow. Losses will also be assessed for cotton crops, the CM said.
