National Car Race Championship Debuts in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The two-day National Car Race Championship kicked off at Baramunda ground in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, drawing participants from Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.

Organized under the 2024 Indian National Auto Cross Championship, the event, titled “Race Off the Road,” marks the second round of the East Zone qualifiers. Held at the Biju Patnaik playground, the event is the first of its kind in the state capital.

According to sources, 10 participants from Odisha and 32 from neighboring states are competing in the dirt race. The championship features multiple race categories, including a special ladies’ class, with vehicles ranging from 800cc to 1650cc.

To ensure safety, the venue is equipped with well-constructed dirt tracks and on-spot emergency services. Visuals from the event showcased racers wearing gloves and helmets, speeding through the high-adrenaline tracks.

The championship also aims to promote road safety and discourage street racing. “This event provides motorsports enthusiasts a safe platform to pursue their passion. We urge people not to engage in dangerous racing on roads and highways,” said Ramesh Mohapatra, General Secretary of the Kalinga Motorsports Club.

The event is expected to conclude on Sunday with a thrilling finale and awards ceremony.
