Mumbai-bound Air India flight from San Francisco faces technical glitch

New Delhi: An Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai developed a technical problem in one of its engines during a scheduled stop at Kolkata airport, landing safely at 12:45 am. However, the snag in the left engine delayed its onward departure, prompting the captain to direct passengers to disembark around 5:20 am in the interest of passengers safety. The issue was discovered during a routine post-landing inspection, where a technical problem was suspected, and as a precautionary measure, all passengers were safely deplaned.
Two different Air India flights experienced technical glitches in a period of 24 hours, inconveniencing passengers. Another Air India Express flight from the capital to Ranchi turned back to the city soon after it took off because of a suspected technical fault. The Boeing 737 Max 8 plane was due to land at Ranchi at 6:20 pm but made an unexpected turnaround to Delhi. Following inspection and clearance, the flight went back to normal operations, says an airline official.
In a separate incident, an Air India flight from Hong Kong back to Delhi was diverted mid-air after the pilot informed that a suspected technical issue existed. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had departed Hong Kong, and the passengers were safely disembarked. The aircraft is undergoing safety inspection.
