MS Dhoni became 5th batsman to score 10,000 ODI runs for India

Sydney, Jan 12: MS Dhoni became the 5th Indian after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli to score 10,000 ODI runs for India. He had breached the 10,000-run mark in ODIs last year in England – Dhoni now has 10,174 runs in one-day internationals but 174 of those came for Asia XI in three matches.

Dhoni brought up with 10,000th ODI run with a single off Jhye Richardson. In 330 ODIs for India so far, Dhoni has 10,000 runs at an average of 49.75. He has scored 9 hundreds and 67 half-centuries for India.

Tendulkar was the first to reach the 10000-run mark and remains the fastest to get there. After debuting on December 18, 1989, the Master Blaster created history when he scored his 10000th run in his 259th innings against Australia in Indore on March 31, 2001. His long-time India teammate and friend Ganguly was the next to get there off 263 innings – on August 3, 2005. Jayasuriya, who debuted in 1989, reached the 10000-run mark six days after Ganguly, taking 328 innings.
