Mother and Child Electrocuted in Keonjhar, Grandmother Critical

Keonjhar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 23-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were electrocuted while drying clothes in the courtyard of their home in the Banspal Bazar area of Keonjhar district on Tuesday. The child’s grandmother was also critically injured while trying to rescue them.

The tragic accident occurred around 10 AM, when Kalpana Mahakud was drying clothes on a wire stretched across the courtyard. One of the garments accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire running parallel to the clothesline, resulting in Kalpana receiving a fatal electric shock.

Hearing her screams, her son, Subhrajit Behera, rushed to help her but was also electrocuted in the process. Kalpana’s mother-in-law, Shantilata Behera, who witnessed the incident, attempted to save them but was likewise injured by the electric current.

Local villagers quickly responded and rushed all three to the Banspal hospital. However, doctors declared Kalpana and Subhrajit dead on arrival. Shantilata remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the Banspal community, with residents mourning the untimely loss of the young mother and child. Local authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances leading to the accidental electrocution.
