Monsoon likely to hit Odisha by 3rd week of June

Reporters Bhubaneswar, May 18: The south-west monsoon will hit the state’s coast between the second and third week of June, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said.
“The south-west monsoon has advanced into South Andaman sea, some parts of south Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands today, the 18th May 2019,” said the IMD in one of its weather bulletin.
Duty Officer at the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Sudarshan Mishra, said rainfall has started in the South Andaman under the influence of the south-west monsoon and it will cover the entire Andaman island in 2-3 days and trigger heavy rainfall.
He said considering the present wind speed, it is likely to hit the Kerala coast on June 6. Though it is expected that the monsoon will hit Odisha on June 10, there will be a delay of about a week.
“Going by the modular study, the monsoon is likely to hit the state between the second and third weeks of June,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the intense heat wave in Western Odisha will prevail in this region for three days, after which it will subside following a nor’wester (kalabaisakhi) in the afternoon.
