Monkey captured by Nandankanan team after 5 days of chaos

Konark: The officials of the Gop Forest Department in Puri district of Odisha, have finally captured a monkey that had been terrorizing villagers for the past 5 days. The capture was made possible with the help of a tranquilizer team from Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar.

According to reports, the monkey had been wreaking havoc in Dihuda, Totasahi, and Poitara villages of Andaraichhapur panchayat in the GOP block of Puri district.

As a result of the monkey’s attacks, 22 villagers were seriously injured, and 3 forest officials were critically hurt. The officials were initially admitted to Gop hospital but were later shifted to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for treatment due to deteriorating health conditions.

The village was gripped by fear, with residents locking their doors and staying indoors. However, relief came this morning when the tranquilizer team from Nandankanan captured the monkey.

The team had set up traps, and forest department officials were guarding and waiting for the monkey to fall into the trap.

The capture was delayed due to the Odisha Bandh, which prevented the tranquilizer team from arriving yesterday.

Interestingly, the villagers had worshipped Lord Mahavir the previous evening, and the Forest Department successfully captured the monkey the next morning.
