MLA Seeks Pension, Benefits for Journalists
Bhubaneswar: MLA Goutam Buddha Das called for the implementation of a pension scheme for journalists in Odisha during the Zero Hour of the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
Das highlighted that 17 other states already provide pensions to journalists and urged the Odisha government to introduce a similar provision.
He also proposed expanding the state-provided health insurance scheme for journalists, which currently offers a coverage of ₹5 lakh, to include their parents. Additionally, he requested that media personnel be granted access to Lok Seva Bhavan.
The MLA further recommended the creation of a Press Academy to enhance professional development and pushed for the enactment of the Journalist Protection Act to ensure their safety.
“The Information and Public Relations Department, under the Chief Minister, should take these suggestions into serious consideration,” Das stated.
