Mission Shakti Protest Disrupts Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: A heated debate is anticipated in the Odisha Assembly today over the salary issues of GPLF Mission Shakti workers, who have been on strike for two days demanding their unpaid wages. The protest involves women workers from six cadres, including MBK, Bank Mitras, LSP, CRP, Krushi Mitra, and Prani Mitra, who claim they have not received salaries for nine months.

The aggrieved workers began their protest on December 9, demanding immediate resolution of their grievances, including salary payment and contract renewal. “We will not end our strike until the government addresses our issues,” said one of the protestors.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has expressed support for the workers and is expected to demand accountability from the Odisha government regarding the salary delays.

Tuesday’s Assembly session witnessed clashes between the ruling BJP and opposition BJD, and further disruptions are expected today. Discussions may also touch on other contentious issues, including the Waltair Division’s separation from the East Coast Railway.

With the protest showing no signs of resolution, the state government faces increasing pressure to address the workers’ ten-point charter of demands.
