Master plan for slums in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had a meeting with architects from Norman Foster Foundation (NFF) at the state secretariat on Monday, heralding a golden era of habitat improvement for slum-dwellers of Odisha.

The Norman Foster Foundation is collaborating with Government of Odisha, Housing and Urban Development Department and Tata Trusts to design and develop master plans for slums under Odisha Live able Habitat Mission.

Welcoming the team the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for timely support of Norman Foster Foundation and Tata Trusts. He indicated that the project has created history, emerged as a model for others and welcomed by slum dwellers. This will allow a million people to live in self-respect, he said.

In May this year, Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Lord Norman Foster and Industrialist Ratan N Tata attended launching of Jaga Mission and committed to support this ambitious slum up gradation programme of the state.

Recently the state government distributed land title and work order for housing to more than 10,000 slum dwellers in Puri.
