Marshaghai BEO flees seeing Vigilance sleuths

Cuttack, May 11: Odisha Vigilance has registered a case vide Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 32 dated 10.05.2022 U/s 7 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Block Education Officer Marshaghai in Kendrapara district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant and fleeing on seeing the Vigilance sleuths.
The BEO Satrughana Behera had demanded a bribe) of Rs.20,000 from a retired staff in his office chamber at Marshaghai in order to process his provisional pension and other retirement benefits.
Today the accused received the bribe money Rs.20,000 from the complainant in his right hand and kept the same in the right side office table drawer, and on seeing the Vigilance staff, managed to escape from the office through back side door.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the office table drawer of Sri Behera and seized in presence of witnesses.
The cotton wash of the table drawer gave positive chemical reaction. The rented house of accused Behera located at Salipur, in Cuttack district has been sealed for search as his family members also left the house apprehending Vigilance action.
His higher authorities have been intimated for necessary departmental action against him.
Steps are being taken to arrest accused Sri Behera, BEO by Odisha Vigilance.
